It is a 100% Syrah. So Syrah and Shiraz are genetically the same grape - but the wines they produce can be very different in style, depending on terroir.
After destalking and minimal crushing, the mash wash left to cold soak for 48 hours. Temperature controlled fermentation with selected Rhoné yeast strains took place at 22 - 26°c. Punch downs effected twice daily. Barrel matured for 19 months in two 300-litre French oak barrels, of which one was new.
820 bottles were produced.
An aromatic wine with notes of lavender, violets, fynbos and a hint of white pepper. Bright purity of red fruits – raspberries, pomegranates with subtle texture of charcuterie savouriness. Fine-grained tannins that will integrate beautifully in time which gives the wine some great maturation potential. The wine is medium bodied and should develop nicely over the next 5-8 years.
